Puturau River - Whanganui Inlet, South Island

 

PUTURAU RIVER: This is almost as far as you can travel down the West Coast, from the Farewell Spit end. Go past Collingwood, turn west near Pakawau, pass the Whanganui Inlet, Crossing several narrow causeways, then a bridge with access to the beach parking . Its a long way, many K’s of gravel road, and no facilities of any sort. But, if you like a place to yourself, at a beach, fishing off the beach, and the chance of a great sunset, then you may like this spot. Lots of interesting limestone cliffs and faces.
