Lake Camp

 

LAKE CAMP: Another in the Ashburton Lakes, From Sh72 at Mt. Somers, travel 23ks to Hakatere and carry on another 9k straight through on a gravel road, and take the first turn off to the lake on the left. There is a DOC camp, with toilets, but no other facilities, with a number of good parking sites, some down by the lake.

 

Trees provide some shelter as the wind can whip down the lake. Good views. Free park.

 

A walk around the lake takes about 45mins, and can extend with a stroll through the many cribs at Lake Clearwater. No cell phone coverage, but an emergency public phone at Lake Clearwater.

 

A few more K’s past Clearwater, is Erewhon Station, and site of Lord of the Rings Edoras.

Nearest dump site Methven, but need to plan in advance.
